Anyone? Posted Friday, August 30, 2002 [16:31]
Hi peeps
Your "attention is drawn" to the new mailing list requests in PoloPOST, echoed by panels in various parts of the site asking you to opt-in to section mailing lists.
This is a simple device to counter the 'selective vision' syndrome when passing by notice boards and web pages - and a remedy to the problems of actually communicating with our member base on fairly important issues... like what's going on.
There are a number of important changes underway on the web site - some more readily apparent than others, some more fun than serious, some useful others perhaps not so. On-line pitch and facility booking, on-line subs & payments, that much-threatened 'picture gallery' (I am still on for bribes NOT to reveal all!), etc, etc.
Much of all this requires member submission of course: please don't wait to be asked. Offer! We particularly need a 'Net savvy person in each team in each section (and you don't have to be a 'nerd' 'geek' or under 17 to apply!). Able to spend several million hours a year on barely acknowledged effort is a plus!

xx Creech
Could be FUN! ______________________________________________
COURT CIRCULAR Posted Thursday, July 18, 2002 [20:01]
Court Circular – July 2002
THE LOTTERY BID As you probably know from the notice at the pavilion, our lottery bid has to be re-submitted.
Here, briefly, are the reasons given for not approving our bid at this stage. Firstly, the bid appears to be facilities led rather than sports development led. While this is not the case, we need to do some work to emphasise that we need the facilities to develop the sport. Secondly, they suggest that the LTA was not 100% behind our application. This is not in fact true and, as a matter of urgency, Roger Smith of Kent LTA came to Polo Farm to clarify the facts with key people so that the LTA can respond as soon as possible to Sport England, the Lottery authority for sport.
MEETING FOR ALL MEMBERS Monday 2 September, 7.30pm There will be an update on the progress of the lottery application at this meeting.
Also on the agenda for open discussion are ideas and options for the Tennis Club’s part in running the Polo Farm bar.
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Monday 2 September – Club Meeting Thursday 26 September – Polo AGM Friday 8 November – Isobel’s Party Thursday 28 November – Tennis AGM

Junior Section Posted Thursday, April 18, 2002 [16:36]
Junior tennis is organised by a small voluntary group of adult members and parents who have tried hard over the last year to accommodate increasing demand, and a number of changes have been made by the club in the court schedule to enable more junior playing time.
This year, we hope to offer the opportunity to all age groups to play in matches against other clubs, and also make the Club’s junior tournament even more successful.
However, this all requires a lot of planning and organisation and the help of parents is desperately required. Matches can only be played if they are organised and the children can be transported and supervised.
SUMMER 2002 Junior Tennis Programme MATCHES We hope to organise matches for both girls and boys in the National Club League, Kent Division.
We hope to enter teams in four age groups to play against Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Bromley and Sevenoaks.
We also hope to organise friendly matches with more local teams – Margate, Walmer and Wye and Sellindge.
Home matches will be played on Sunday mornings and each team will require an adult leader to organise the fixture, transport, etc.
CLUB TOURNAMENT Sunday 21st July 2002 is Club Finals Day – Juniors in the morning and adults in the afternoon. And even if you’re not playing, feel free to come along and watch the games. We will have a BBQ for lunch.
Competitions will be held for both girls and boys and in all age groups.
Matches in the earlier stages need to be played well in advance and it is the responsibility of players and their parents to ensure that arrangements are made for matches to be played.
This year, the club will make two courts available each evening? in the 4 weeks up to the Club Finals Day to be booked for either junior or adult matches – it is up to you to make the necessary arrangements.
There will be a nominal entry charge for the Club Tournament.
KENT LTA TOURNAMENT This Open Tournament will be held during the week beginning 29th July. Dates and details will be on the notice board.
FRIDAY NIGHTS- Junior Play
For the Spring and Summer, Friday night continues to be junior night – as before, just turn up and play from 6.00pm. John will be supervising, assisted by adult helpers from the club and also parents.
There are other opportunities for juniors to play with other junior members at times when the courts are not specifically allocated to club play or matches.
A court schedule will be displayed on the junior notice board between court 1 and the car park so that you can identify the times when you can arrange to play at other times, without any club supervision.
INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE The club has been contacted by a club in the Dordogne Region of France looking for exchanges this summer. We are getting details. Watch the junior notice board.
The club has plans to increase the number of courts – the application for lottery funding for the 2 indoor courts has now been submitted. 2 outdoor acrylic courts are also proposed which will be predominantly for junior use.
We expect to hear whether we have been successful by July. If we are the new courts should be playable within a year, significantly increasing the playing capacity of the club.
As with most local sports clubs, Polo Farm is based on a strong tradition of volunteer help and this is particularly important where junior sport is concerned.
Your small Junior Committee is striving hard to increase the opportunities for junior play, but this cannot happen without substantial support from parents.
Come along and help, get involved and make sure you know what is going on and when so that your children can benefit as much as possible from the excellent facilities we have at Polo Farm.
Keep an eye on the junior notice board for more information as the season progresses.
