Our history.

Founded in 1901, disbanded during the Second World War and re-formed in 1973, Canterbury Ladies have gone from strength to strength and are now one of the leading lights in Ladies Hockey. The decision to join forces with the men in 1978, when Polo Farm was purchased was inspired and together with Men’s hockey and Beverley Cricket Club we transformed a derelict orchard into the thriving Club that Polo Farm Sports Club is today.

We started with exceptional grass pitches but in 1987 transformed one of the grass pitches to our first artificial pitch. Since then we have hosted International matches, numerous domestic Cup Finals, played host to numerous visiting national and international sides. In 1988 the then President of the Hockey Association congratulated the club on its initiative and commended “the business Acumen, enthusiasm and determination which have been harnessed at Canterbury Hockey Club”. We laid a second artificial pitch in 1993, with a third in 2009.

Improvement in our facilities was matched by progress in performance. The Ladies reached National League status in 1993 with promotion to the Premier league the following year. We have stayed in the Premier Division ever since.

We have won through to Europe on three occasions, coming home with a Silver Medal on each occasion. Not only are our 1st Team worthy advocates of our sport we have enjoyed success Indoor, in Regional and in County leagues.  We also have achieved success at Veterans level as well as at Under 10.

We are justly proud of the development of Ladies hockey and trust that the future is as exciting as the past has been.
