Welcome to the griffins

Griffins Oct 2016

2014/15 season

GRIFFINS  – Kent Men’s Outdoor  – Open Premier C

FINAL LEAGUE POSITION: 7 out of 12

Chalk and cheese season - after a morale sapping first half (bottom of league at one point before Christmas without a win) the Griffs (or Grifflets as they ought to be re-christened after almost rising from the dead!)  held their nerve and were the most improved team of the second half of the season (along with the 1s!).

The club policy (well the Club Captain, Griffs skipper and Team Sec's) of changing the focus of this team from an older age profile to a young thrusting modern, 21st century, development team caused a few feathers to be ruffled but paid off eventually and Hugh Verrier deserves huge credit for the way he managed and skippered the team.

Not many realise that he was injured for most of the season but turned out every Saturday to manage the team (and be its taxi driver!). Tony Panayides also played in the team for most of the season but we are not quite sure how effectively but he was always present in spirit! Next season he  will be the Team Mascot.

GRIFFINS  – Kent Men’s Outdoor  – Open Division 1

FINAL LEAGUE POSITION: 7 out of 12

Anno Domini is catching the Griffs up faster than the born again Friars! However they finished well under new skipper Tony Panayides but much helped by the Boys under 16s squad and Tim Smith. As the old originals started to fall off the wall mainly due to injury the team is thinking of being renamed the Grifflets or Baby Griffs!
