Canterbury 2nd XI went into runners-up spot in the league after a very convincing 7 wicket defeat of Bromley Common on Saturday. The home side won the toss and decided to bat first but were never able to progress much against excellent bowling from all the Canterbury bowlers. Both Dale Clarkson (2 for 34) and Peter McCaig held the openers in check with having just 44 runs being scored from their combined tally of 20 overs. Skipper Mark Slaughter then turned to his faithful spinners Stan Sullivan and Rob Walker to put pressure on the Bromley Common batsmen. Both have performed well this year so far and nothing was to change on Saturday. Stan finished with excellent figures of 5 for 29 from his 15 overs and he was well supported by Rob who finished with 3 for 36 from his 14 overs. Bromley Common were dismissed for 141, a target that was easily attainable by the Canterbury batsmen.

Mark Slaughter led his troops well with a 70 not out and was helped along the way by Dave Sayle (22) and Mike Burnett (31 not out). The total was reached in relative comfort and with almost 8 overs to go. The win took Canterbury into 2nd place in the division who now travel to Rainham C.C. in their next fixture.
