Canterbury came out on top of their Lords East Kent League derby fixture against Whitstable on Sunday winning by 4 wickets. Whitstable selected a youthful side and with skipper Stuart Sinclair winning the toss they elected to bat first. This being a 40 over competition their final score of 185 all out was a respectable score but one that Canterbury should have been expected to overcome. Peter McCaig was the pick of the home sides bowlers taking 4 for 41 from his 8 overs. Torry Hughes (2 for 33), Stu Drakeley (2 for 24) and Justin McVicar (1 for 25) shared the other wickets between them.
In chasing down the target, Caiden Lang set the stall out with 58 and then Stu Drakeley (41) and Justin McVicar (42 not out) saw Canterbury home with just the one ball to spare and for the loss of just 6 wickets. Like their opponents, Canterbury too had a sprinkling of young players in the side which all bodes well for the future of the Club. For full scorecard please see more
