The 2nd XI returned to partial winning ways when they secured a fairly convincing winning draw against HSBC at the New Beckenham Ground. Skipper Mark Slaughter led the way with a solid 55 at the top of the order and was helped by the 'exhuberant' Chris Jay who hit 75 in the Canterbury total of 198 for 7. Special note should go to HSBC's Tony Hussey who finished with figures of 6 for 49 from his 15 overs.

In chasing their target wickets fell regularly and at 57 for 5 it looked as though Cantrebury would go on to complete a full win. However, HSBC 'dug in' and Canterbury found it difficult to break through and finish the innings off. HSBC managed to get through their 50 overs for the loss of 7 wickets but could only total 117, leaving them some 82 runs short of their target. Dale Clarkson (2 for 25) and Pat Kelleher (1 for 24) were extremely economical at the start of the innings. The other wickets were shared between Stan Sullivan, Tory Hughes and Rob Walker.
