Canterbury 1st XI played host to Bexley on Saturday when after so much rain during the week it was just pleasing to be able to play a full game of cricket. Canterbury's skipper, Tim Wren won the toss and decided to have first knock and saw his side reach 185 for 8. With Matt Jenkinson falling early it was young South African Caiden Lang (45) who steadied the ship along with the reliable Paul Steer (56 not out). Several of the middle order fell cheaply and it was left to 'The Minter Brothers', Ryan (22) & Damian (19) (not Ronnie & Reggie) to help Steery bat out the rest of the overs.
Runs were never easy to come by for Bexley who really struggled against the frugal bowling of all the Canterbury bowlers. Ben Cooper and Tim Wren took two wickets each and in doing so went for just 38 runs in the 24 overs they bowled between them. Although not scoring the runs Bexley were able to keep wickets intact and closed their innings on 106 for 7 giving Canterbury a winning draw and taking them to second in the table behind The Mote C.C. Canterbury travel to Broadstairs C.C. next hoping to continue their very respectable start to the season.
