The first fixture of the 2008 season resulted in a convincing 5 wicket win for Canterbury 2nd XI as they travelled to Orpington C.C. Having won the toss the home side decided to bat first and reached 178 for 7 in their 50 overs. Dale Clarkson in his first KCL game for Canterbury since his move from Gravesend took 5 wickets and was helped by 5 catches from youngster Daniel Dolman behind the stumps.

In reply Canterbury reached the winning target in 45.5 overs for the loss of just 5 wickets, finishing on 179 for 5. Skipper Mark Slaughter (43) and David Sayle (55) began the innings with a solid partnership and it was left for Jamie Uglow to shepherd the side home with 34 not out.
